At the start of the California recall, I was concerned that the replacement governor, if any, would lack an electoral mandate. Looks like I had nothing to worry about. With
99.4% of the votes counted, Arnold Schwarzenegger received 3,639,302 votes. In contrast, Governor Davis was re-elected last November with 3,533,490 votes. Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante received just over 2.4 million votes in the recall, marking a net Democratic loss of over 1.1 million votes.
