I googled your man and gave up after the first 10 listings or so, having learned absolutely nothing about who he is, how or whether he votes, or what he believes in. I note the location "Moorpark". Sure that isn't a mis-spelling of "Morpok" as in "Ankh-Morpok" and this isn't all just a Discworld cyber-prank?revereridesagainnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5200276.post-21166548037100069132011-03-30T20:44:53.371-04:002011-03-30T20:44:53.371-04:00UN PRESIDENT TIM KALEMKARIAN, US PRESIDENT TIM KAL...UN PRESIDENT TIM KALEMKARIAN, US PRESIDENT TIM KALEMKARIAN, US SENATE TIM KALEMKARIAN, US HOUSE TIM KALEMKARIAN: BEST MAJOR CANDIDATE.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5200276.post-87062494648700959932011-03-29T11:28:32.429-04:002011-03-29T11:28:32.429-04:00Generally, I think most real intellectuals at any ...Generally, I think most real intellectuals at any time in history were just as religious as they had to be in order to avoid different forms of ostracism, such as being lynched. What were they in essence?--that's the thing.Slade Calhounnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5200276.post-85593777347141290992011-03-29T07:52:33.476-04:002011-03-29T07:52:33.476-04:00Ed,
I don't think "neoconservatives"...Ed,

I don't think "neoconservatives" ignore the Barbary treaty. Their argument would be that there are many other documents evidencing the importance of Christianity, such as the treaty that gave the US independence and the treaty that ended the Mexican-American war, both which mention the Trinity.

Most of the Founding Fathers were members of orthodox churches and relatively few embraced Deism. (Of course how devout they were is a different question.) The one person to sign all of the nation's founding documents was Connecticut's Roger Sherman, who was a devout Congregationalist layman. The man who taught more of the Founders than any other was a signer of the Declaration of Independence was John Witherspoon of Princeton. He was a Calvinist minister (and a hard money man).

And when the First Amendment was ratified most states had established or semi-established churches. Connecticut and Massachusetts didn't end Congregationalism as their state churches until the 1820s and 30s.

The cliche about the truth being "somewhere in the middle" appears correct. The Founders would probably not be appreciated by today's religious right and secular left.Neil Parillehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11074901258306769278noreply@blogger.com
